Resource Utilization of Acid Mine Drainage (AMD): A Review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Acid mine drainage (AMD) is a typical type of pollution originating from complex oxidation interactions that occur under ambient conditions in abandoned and active mines. AMD has high acidity contains concentration heavy metals metalloids, posing serious threat to ecological systems human health. Over the years, great progress been made prevention treatment AMD. Remediation approaches like chemical neutralization precipitation, ion exchange, membrane separation processes, bioremediation have extensively reported. Nevertheless, some limitations, such as low efficacy, excessive consumption reagents, secondary contamination restrict application these technologies. The aim this review was provide updated information on sustainable treatments engaged published literature resource utilization recovery reuse valuable resources (e.g., clean water, sulfuric acid, metal ions) can offset cost remediation. Iron oxide particles recovered be applied adsorbents for removal pollutants wastewater fabrication effective catalysts heterogeneous Fenton reactions. beneficiation fields, activating pyrite chalcopyrite flotation, regulating pulp pH, leaching copper-bearing waste rock, provides easy access innovative A will help researchers understand research, identify strengths weaknesses each technology, which shape direction future research area.

Acid Mine drAinAge (AMd) MAnAgeMent

AMd is recognized as one of the most serious environmental problem in the mining industry. the problem of acid mine drainage (AMd) has been present since mining activity began thousands of years ago. Mining activity has disrupted the hydrology of mining areas so badly that it is extremely difficult to predict where water would eventually re-emerge. its causes, treatment have become the focus of...

Acid mine drainage and subsidence: effects of increased coal utilization.

The increases above 1975 levels for acid mine drainage and subsidence for the years 1985 and 2000 based on projections of current mining trends and the National Energy Plan are presented. No increases are projected for acid mine drainage from surface mines or waste since enforcement under present laws should control this problem. The increase in acid mine drainage from underground mines is proj...

Preventing acid mine drainage from mine tailings

Mining activity always has high impact on its surroundings, being waste deposition the cause of multiple and complex problems to the environment. One of them is Acid Mine Drainage (AMD), causing acid water percolation through large areas in the mine site. Portugal was a prosper tungsten producer from the beginning of the XX century, having its apogee during World War II. Nowadays there are mill...

Electricity generation from synthetic acid-mine drainage (AMD) water using fuel cell technologies.

Acid-mine drainage (AMD) is difficult and costly to treat. We investigated a new approach to AMD treatment using fuel cell technologies to generate electricity while removing iron from the water. Utilizing a recently developed microbial fuel cell architecture, we developed an acid-mine drainage fuel cell (AMD-FC) capable of abiotic electricity generation. The AMD-FC operated in fed-batch mode g...
